During the half term the Sussex Cricket Foundation through the funding and support of the Aldridge Foundation put on a four-day holiday camp for girls at the Sir Rod Aldridge Cricket Centre.
Over the four days girls from the age of 8- 11-year olds were coached cricket with fun games over three hours per day, followed by a two-hour session with girls aged 12 – 16 working on hard ball skills, drills and fun games.
All the sessions were free to the girls, as this was done through the sponsor of the Aldridge Foundation project which the Sussex Cricket Foundation are running. The four days were a success with 10 girls coached for the younger age group each day and 21 girls coached for the older group in the afternoon.
Sussex Cricket Foundation Women and Girls Development Officer, Charlotte Burton said, “The girls’ half term camp was a huge success, yes we would like to encourage more girls for the younger session, but the girls who came to both sessions enjoyed the four days, showed real improvement over the days and took a lot from the camp as well as having lots of fun. Having the opportunity thanks to the Aldridge Foundation to give girls the chance to try cricket at no cost, at a high-quality facility and coached by high quality Sussex Cricket Foundation coaches is great for girls’ cricket in Sussex.”
There will be more holiday camps in 2018, with one being held in February half term. Please keep an eye on our website and social media sites to register your daughter on the next half term camp.
In the meantime, the Sussex Cricket Foundation are still running the girls Aldridge Foundation Hubs at the Sir Rod Aldridge Cricket Centre, Portslade Leisure Centre, Worthing High, Plumpton College and The Triangle in Burgess Hill.
