I am writing to you in my role as Chairman of the Adult Leagues Group (“ALG”), which consists of representatives from the four adult cricket leagues in Sussex, as well as other key individuals in recreational cricket. The ALG reports directly into Sussex Cricket Limited (“SCL”) as a sub-group of its wholly owned charity, the Sussex Cricket Foundation.
We have been instructed by SCL, as part of the Strategy for Cricket in Sussex, to conduct a full review of the league structure as it currently stands and to make recommendations for future improvement by March 2018. Those recommendations will be considered by the SCL Board and, if approved, will be implemented in time for the 2019 season.
A small working group has been set up from within the ALG to undertake this work.
The central theme of the review, agreed in principle by the ALG, is that we should explore the feasibility of a free flowing single structure, incorporating the three leagues (Sussex Premier, West Sussex Invitation and East Sussex) that currently form the pyramid, along with the Mid Sussex league that currently sits outside it.
Clearly, the key to the success of this review is to have extensive and open consultation with all clubs that make up the current structure. To that end, we will be holding several sessions across Sussex during July and August, to speak to as many Clubs and Players as possible and find out what they would like to see from a recreational cricket structure in the future.
We believe that this local approach will result in the best possible input and feedback. It will also mean that players can hear the views of those in leagues other than their own.
Apart from a short introduction from the working group, the sessions will follow an open forum format.
The sessions have been scheduled for the following dates (all from 7pm): –
Middleton CC – Wednesday 5th July
SCF Education Centre at the 1st Central County Ground, Hove – Monday 10th July
Buxted Park CC – Monday 17th July
Hastings & St Leonards Priory CC – Thursday 20th July
Eastbourne CC – Thursday 27th July
Lindfield CC – Monday 31st July
East Grinstead CC – Tuesday 1st August
Horsham CC – Tuesday 8th August
Worthing CC – Wednesday 16th August
This e-mail is going to all Club Chairman, Secretaries and League Representatives and we ask that you disseminate fully within your clubs. It will also be sent to every player with a registered e-mail address on Play-Cricket. We want to hear from as many people as possible and everybody receiving this e-mail is welcome to attend one or more of the sessions above. The intention has been to locate them so that all players have this opportunity without the need to travel too far.
We will send out reminder e-mails as these sessions become due, but please note the date(s) that are pertinent to you or your Club. There is no need to tell us you’re attending in advance.
The key message here is that change is going to happen and YOU CAN INFLUENCE THE DIRECTION THAT RECREATIONAL LEAGUE CRICKET TAKES. Now is the time to tell us what you think.
We look forward to seeing you. Please let us know if you have any questions in advance.
